National Library building in Riga – the winner at Architecture Awards 2015

Print versionCiting "vision and ambition in challenging traditions and presumptions in architectural Riga, in creating an object whose importance is 'national'", the 2015 Architecture Award winners are the architects, designers, contracting authorities and the construction companies for the much-debated Latvian National Library in Riga-Pardaugava, informs LETA.

Leading the pack of architects was Gunars Birkerts, the primary contracting authority was the Ministry of Culture, and the construction job was conducted by the triumvirate of Skonto buve, RBS Skals and Re&Re.
Architecture Awards 2015 listed those projects earning Honorable Mention this year. Among them – the restoration of a classic one-floor wooden dwelling at K. Valdemara St. 45, the modern high rise at Grostonas 19, reconstruction of the dental clinic at Gertrudes 59, and reconstruction of Ward 8, Riga First Hospital at Bruninieku 5.
The jury of noted architects inspected each building nominated first hand. The Panel of Senior Architects of Riga had its say, as well as the "voice of the people."
