BC, Tallinn, 28.09.2015.Print version
Today, the opening ceremony of Pärnu Bay Golf Links golf course and its modern clubhouse will take place in Tahkuranna, Pärnumaa. Pärnu Bay Golf Links is the first links course in the Baltic region and it is aimed at experienced golfers as well as beginners. The course is located at a coastal stretch of land with sandy soil and fescue grasses, two kilometers from Estonia’s summer capital Pärnu.

“Among the 38 000 golf courses of the world, the number of true links courses is approximately 1 per cent, including the historical St. Andrews course in Scotland, which is considered to be the birth place of golf,” says Peter Hunt, owner of Pärnu Bay Golf Links. The coastal area at Tahkuranna was perfect for constructing such a golf course. Designed by Finnish well known golf architect Lassi-Pekka Tilander, the golf course synchronizes with the surrounding nature, building up a perfect unity. There are no similar golf courses in the Baltic countries, some comparable ones are in the Nordic countries. The construction works were led by Mick McShane, who is also known as the lead shaper for St. Andrews Links’ Castle Course and Kingsbarns Golf Links.

“We are certain that opening of the new golf course will help to raise general interest towards golf in Estonia and increase the attractiveness of Pärnu as a tourism and excellent golf destination, not only in the neighboring countries, but also farther away,” says Marko Kaldoja, Manager of Pärnu Bay Golf Links. The amount of investments into the golf complex, which are 10 Million Euros, have been made with a serious intention to create such conditions and environment for golfers, which would be comparable with the best golf courses in the world. The first feedback and reactions from well-known golf journalists and players have already given us some proof of it,” says Marko Kaldoja.

Pärnu Bay Golf Links is a versatile golf complex, which features in addition to the 18-hole course also a par-three course of five holes and practice bunkers, putting and chipping greens. The par-72 course plays from 4500 to 6200 meters. There is a modern clubhouse located in the golf complex, which accommodates saunas for golfers, a pro shop selling golfing equipment, a lounge café and the restaurant “Eagle”. The restaurant is open to all guests – golfers or non-golfers. The restaurant makes a tribute to Scotland, the birth country of golf – our menu is based on Scottish food, but it is with a Nordic twist. Lighter meals can be ordered at the cozy lounge café in the first floor of the clubhouse. From the restaurant as well as the café, visitors can enjoy stunning views over Pärnu Bay, especially beautiful is the sunset,” says Marko Kaldoja.
