KVV Liepajas metalurgs has produced 50,000 tons of rebar so far, and the company is actively preparing to launch its steel melting facility and the second rolling mill at the beginning of May, the company's CEO Igor Kovalenko told LETA.

"According to the schedule, we have received a portion – 7,000 tons – of the necessary scarp metal from Tolmets to begin steel melting. At the moment, the company employs 677 people, while additional staff is being recruited," said Kovalenko.

As reported, the first rolling mill of KVV Liepajas metalurgs began operations in test mode already in mid-February, while the official opening of the plant took place on March 6.

The Ukrainian company KVV Group won the Liepajas metalurgs tender and the right to acquire the metallurgical plant for EUR 107 million. The company's insolvency administrator Haralds Velmers and Valery Krishtal signed the Liepajas metalurgs sales agreement on October 2 last year.
