EUR 65 mln to be distributed to Lithuania's young farmers by 2020

BC, Vilnius, 05.03.2015.Print version
The Ministry of Agriculture has prepared draft rules for the setting-up of young farmers based on 2014-2020 Lithuania's Rural Development Programme. In 2015, farmers may claim EUR 20 million from the European Union Structural Support, reports LETA/ELTA.

Applications will be admissible from 1 through 30 April. Farmers younger than 40 years of age who have completed higher or professional agricultural education or young farmer's training programme may apply for support.

If an applicant does meet these requirements, he or she will have to gain the necessary skills and competences in 36 months after the decision is taken to provide financial support.

Support will be granted to farms which economic size potential expressed in the standard output is greater than EUR 8,000 but below EUR 70,000. Amount of support per beneficiary is EUR 60,000 if a livestock farm is being set up, or EUR 50,000 in case of other farms.
