Today, Brussels opens an exhibition "Earthworks" to honor Riga as the European Capital of Culture, as Martins Dregeris, public relations, "Riga 2014", informed LETA.

The exhibit will consist of five series of objects, each of them symbolizing one feature of the traditional Latvian dwelling – black ceramics (the stove), glass tableware (the family table), toys (the shed), textiles (the sauna) and furniture (the yard).

The exposition will be complemented by large blocks of peat that with its tone and texture resemble the natural features and colors of the materials used in making the traditional items. The peat symbolizes Latvia's natural surroundings and the preservation of the traditional heritage.

Also, large-format photos showing traditional craft and cultural heritage, which has inspired new works of arts.

The exhibition will show works created by Rihards Funts, Natalija Jansone, Zane Homka, Liga Mergina, Sarmite Stabulniece, and photographer Valdis Jansons.

The "Earthworks" is a part from design festival "Brussels Design September". The exhibition can be viewed in the BIP center in Brussels from September 9 to October 18.
