Baltic Sea region innovations in textile industries to be presented in Latvia

Organized by the Baltic Fashion Federation the international event „Innovations in the fashion and textile industry” will take place on May 28-30, in Riga. The agenda of the event includes two round table discussions, an educational seminar and a visit to the Latvian innovative textile manufacturers, as well as an exhibition of innovative products from six countries of the Baltic Sea region, informed BC The Baltic Fashion Federation.

The event is a part of the EU funded project „BALTIC FASHION” and will serve as its culmination, having presented the results of the project.

 

The main task of the project is to create an informative internet platform www.balticfashion.eu which will serve for small and medium enterprises as well as to designers as a database and the main source of information on innovations in the textile and fashion industry in the Baltic Sea region. The realisation of the project began in 2010 and is planned to be finished by the end of 2013. The professional organisations of the textile and fashion industry from Latvia, Lithuania, Germany, Poland, Sweden, Finland and Estonia are the participants of the project; Latvia is represented by the Baltic Fashion Federation and the Latvian Art academy.

 

On May 28 two round table discussions will take place in Elizabete Hotel (Dzirnavu str. 2): the topic of the first one is „Development of Fashion and Textile Industries in Latvia for the period of 2014 - 2020.  Perspectives, Issues and Possible Scenario”, there will be many professionals of the textile and fashion industry of Latvia and representatives of the official bodies among the participants. The second discussion will take place at the international level and its topic is „Development of Fashion and Textile Industries in the Baltic Sea Region for the period of 2014 - 2020. Perspectives, Issues and Possible Cooperation Models”, and the participants are the project „Baltic Fashion” partners as well as the European Fashion Council president Nadya Valeva.

 

On May 29 the training seminar ”Innovative approaches in the fashion industry” will take place in Elizabete Hotel, aimed to small and medium enterprises, designers, students of fashion schools and the „Baltic Fashion” project partners. The topics of the seminar will be the following: “Launching and Maintaining a Fashion Brand. Press and Marketing. Production, Distribution and Sales. Social Media and Branding”, “Training of Innovation Development in the Curriculum of Fashion and Textiles Studies”, “Wearable Smart Textiles” and others.


On May 29 the opening of the exhibition „Innovations in the fashion and textile industry” will take place in the new exhibition hall of the Latvian Art Academy. More than 20 different innovative products from 6 countries of the Baltic sea region will be presented at the exhibition (including the innovations developed during the project „Baltic Fashion”), as for example, a glove with the built in wi-fi technology with which help it is possible to answer a mobile phone call, or a belt with which help it is possible to measure pulse. For general public the exhibition will be open from May 30 till June 2 in the new exhibition hall of the Latvian Art academy (Kalpaka blvd. 13, in a court yard).

 

On May 30 the participants of the seminar will have a possibility to visit the Latvian innovative manufacturers in order to get acquainted personally with their innovative technologies. The Baltic Fashion Federation will organise such a visit already for the second time, following a very big interest and positive feedback from participants’ of the last similar event in autumn.
