Unique photo exhibition in Vilnius and Paris marks Bastille Day

A unique photo exhibition about life in Vilnius and Paris during the coronavirus quarantine is to be opened in the two capitals on Tuesday as France celebrates Bastille Day, its national holiday, informed LETA/BNS.

Both countries' embassies are hosting the opening events. 

"The idea to organize a virtual photo exhibition was born during the quarantine period, seeing the streets of Paris emptying, the rhythm of the big city halting to a pause and silence unexpectedly setting in," Nerijus Aleksiejunas, Lithuania's ambassador to France, told.

"That silence seemed to be universal and, paradoxically, it has brought Vilnius and Paris closer together," he added.

Yolita Rene, a Lithuanian-born artist who lives in Paris, is the curator of the exhibition and the author of a slideshow film entitled "Paris – Vinius. Le silence spectaculaire" (Paris – Vinius. The Spectacular Silence). 

The exhibition features photographs by nine photographers – Michel Bourguet, Olivier Marchesi, Ludo Segers, Edvardas Blazevic, Ramunas Danisevicius, Algimantas Kuncius, Justinas Stacevicius, Benas Gerdziunas and Domantas Umbrasas – that captured unique images from the French and Lithuanian capitals during the quarantine period.

In the film, their works are shown to the accompaniment of music composed for the occasion by Dominikas Dingimas, a young Lithuanian composer.
