Riga to host Baltic Economic Forum on June 12

On June 12 Riga will host the 10th Baltic Economic Forum, which will focus on Baltic States' economic development prospects, putting the main emphasis on the banking system and energy issues, LETA learned from the organizers of the event.

The 10th Baltic Economic Forum is organized jointly by the Ministry of Economy of Latvia, "Economists Association 2010" and the Business School of Latvia. Supporters of the forum are the Association of Latvian Commercial Banks, Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the company Domenikss.

 

Latvian Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis (New Era) and Lithuanian Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius will be the speakers at the forum's opening session. Also the European Commission Vice-President for Administration, Audit and Anti-fraud Siim Kallas has been invited to make an opening address at the forum.

 

Other speakers at the event will be representatives of the European Commission, the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Lithuanian Banks Association, the Association of Hotels and Restaurants of Latvia, telecommunications company Lattelecom, as well as SEB banka, Swedbank, the German energy company E.ON Ruhrgas International, audit company Ernst&Young, Estonian energy company Eesti Energia and others.

 

The key topics of the forum 2009 are "Possible Scenarios and Main Indicators for the Baltic States in 2009 and Further", "How to Endure the Economic Crisis in Central and Eastern Europe", "Euro Introduction Perspectives for the Baltic States", "Energy Issues: Energy Efficiency, Renewable Energy Sources, Nuclear Energy".

 

The Baltic Economic Forum is an international event, held once per year since 1999 in one the three Baltic states. Since 2004 the forum has been held annually in Riga.

 

The Baltic Economic Forum is a meeting point for government representatives, politicians and business leaders from the Baltic states, European Union, Russia and C.I.S. countries.

 

The forum's working language is English.
