Latvia's banking sector earns EUR 241.1 mln in 8 months

Latvia's banking sector earned EUR 241.1 million in the first eight months of 2014, reports LETA/Nozare.lv, referring to information provided by the Financial and Capital Market Commission.

A total of 15 Latvian banks and their subsidiaries outside Latvia operated with a profit in August (their share of the total banking sector – 86.1%).

 

The total credit portfolio of the banking sector grew 0.4% a month, reaching EUR 14.8 billion at the end of August.

 

The total amount of resident corporate credit portfolios increased by 0.9% (EUR 66 million), while non-resident credit portfolios increased by 1.9% (EUR 35 million). Meanwhile, non-resident household credit portfolios continued to reduce, reaching EUR 29 million in August – a 0.5% decrease.

 

The amount of deposits in the Latvian banking sector grew by 0.8% (EUR 154 million), amounting to EUR 20.6 billion in August.

 

Deposits of residents grew 1% (EUR 104 million), whereas deposits of non-residents increased 0.5% (EUR 50 million).

 

The total amount of assets remained unchanged, reaching EUR 28.974 billion at the end of August.
