Several banks operating in Latvia included in Bloomberg's list of world's strongest banks

The international business news agency Bloomberg's publication "Bloomberg Markets Magazine" has released its list of the world's strongest banks in 2014, which also includes several banks that operate in Latvia, reports LETA.

Finland's Pohjola Bank plc. is ranked eighth on the list, Sweden's SEB banka is in ninth place and Swedbank, another Swedish bank, is in 14th place.

 

According to Bloomberg, the world's strongest bank is the Hong Kong-based Hang Seng Bank, followed by Canada's Desjardins Group and Japan's Norinchukin Bank.

 

The strongest bank in Europe is the German Bayerische Landesbank, Pohjola Bank plc. is second and SEB banka third, followed by Sweden's Svenska Handelsbanken and Swiss UBS.

 

Bloomberg's strongest-bank ranking includes lenders with at least USD 100 billion in assets as of May 1. The ranking weights and combines five criteria, including Tier 1 capital compared with risk-weighted assets, nonperforming assets against total assets, and efficiency, a measure of costs against revenue. The list of 20 strongest banks in the world includes eight Asian banks, eight European banks, four banks in Northern Europe and one Middle East bank.
