At the end of 2008, the Tax and Customs Board of Estonia made 163 employees redundant and abolished a total of 350 official positions in its structure, writes EPL Online/LETA.

At the end of the year 2008, the board carried out major reorganisations which would make it possible for the institution to work more efficiently and manage with fewer expenses.

350 jobs were abolished during the restructurisation works, which in reality meant that 163 persons had to leave the board.

In order to handle the same work capacity and volumes with a smaller staff, the Tax and Customs Board focussed on developing e-applications.

The board stated that its new strategic plan for the year 2009-2012 is targeted to enhancing lawfulness of residents and decreasing the administrative burden of law-abiding customers.
