As of Tuesday morning, Swedbank insurance had received 40 damage claims connected to the storm that has ravaged Estonia for the past couple of days, most of them concerning vehicles; the company forecasts that their clients will submit around a hundred damage claims connected to the storm, amounting to damage compensations of 400,000 EUR, LETA/Postimees Online reports.

Swedbank P&C Insurance AS CEO Ivika Torpel said that the main cause of damages is vehicles colliding with trees broken in the storm and fallen on roads and trees and parts of buildings falling on vehicles.

Torpel said that 6 out of the 23 damaged vehicles will have to be written off.

16 claims connected to damaged homes had been submitted by morning mainly because of damaged roofs.

Torpel said that the full influence of the storm on insured property can be estimated at the end of the week when clients have had a chance to review their summer cottages and country homes too. "We forecast by the end of the week up to 100 claim reports and up to 400,000 EUR as damage sums due to damages caused by the storm Patrick," she said.
