The total volume of the draft 2011 budget is 7.245 billion kroons next year, a growth of nearly 141 mln kroons as compared to this year’s budget, informs National Broadcasting.
The city council chairman Toomas Vitsut said that he convened the emergency meeting of the city council for next week to start discussing the draft budget in order to give many target groups a feeling of security.
One of the reasons for the urgency is the need to get the financing decisions for the Culture Capital 2011 project, as not just Brussels, but residents of Tallinn and member cities of the culture cities network as well as the whole Estonia need it, he said.
Vitsut also said that since Estonia adopts the euro next year, the budget discussions cannot be left to the end of the year as usual.
