Bank of Latvia's foreign exchange reserve in January – at USD 6.874 bln

The Bank of Latvia's foreign exchange reserve at the end of January of the year 2010 stands at USD 6.874 billion (LVL 3.526 billion), the bank informed the business portal Nozare.lv. The Bank of Latvia's external exchange reserves at the end of December were USD 6.905 billion (LVL 3.48 billion).

The majority of the central bank's foreign reserve is made up of convertible currency to the value of USD 6.417 billion (LVL 3.29 billion), reports LETA.

 

The bank's gold reserves were worth USD 270.78 million (LVL 138.9 million) in January. At the same time, the bank held special drawing rights worth USD 185.78 million (LVL 95.3 million).

 

Bank of Latvia experts explained that the increase in the bank's external exchange reserve of EUR 105.69 million (LVL 74.19 million) or 2.2. percent compared with December 2009 is mainly due to an increase in the Latvian government's deposits in foreign currencies.
