German Finance Minister: Estonia will get to the Euro area without extra conditions

Print versionGerman Finance Minister Wolfgang Schäuble confirmed when meeting with Pro Patria and Res Publica Union (PRU) chairman Mart Laar in Berlin that Estonia is welcome to the Euro area and there cannot be any talk about setting extra conditions for Estonia to get the Euro, National Broadcasting/LETA reports.

“Schäuble confirmed that when Estonia fulfils the criteria, she is welcome to the Euro area. He expressed conviction that there cannot be any talk about setting any possible extra conditions to bar Estonia’s path to the Euro area,” said PRU.
Laar and Schäuble discussed economic situation in Estonia and the region as a whole.
Schäuble praised Estonia’s policies that have enabled to keep the budget deficit under control and thus make the necessary steps towards the Euro area.
Laar and Schäuble participated in Berlin, in the European House at a discussion over Europe’s past and future.
