By Johan Tere, BC, Tallinn, 01.07.2009.Print version
This year, Swedbank will close down a total of 16 bank offices in Estonia, many of them in small rural settlements, writes Postimees/LETA. On July 1, Swedbank will close two rural bank offices in the Harju County and on September 1 an office on the island of Hiiumaa, in Käina. Swedbank has in 2009 closed down bank offices in Tallinn, Tartu and in Pärnu and 71 branch offices across Estonia have remained.

"The bank offices are being closed down due to the overall decline in economic activity," explained Mihkel Roosme, the director of the network of offices and helpline services of Swedbank.

In the locations where bank offices have been and will be closed down, the banking bus will visit two to three times a month, stopping over for a couple of hours, making it possible for people to make transactions.
