PKO Bank, one of Poland's largest commercial banks, is actively inquiring into the possibilities of opening operations in Lithuania, according to information available to LETA/BNS.

PKO Bank's board chairman Rafal Kozlowski is coming to Lithuania on Monday to meet with Lithuania's Finance Minister Vilius Sapoka and officials of the central Bank of Lithuania.

"We are currently finalizing issues of the meeting, I believe we will be provide more information about the meeting," Kristina Malevskiene, spokeswoman for the Finance Ministry, told BNS.

After DNB and Nordea last year announced plans to merge their Baltic operations, PKO was listed in the media as a possible buyer of the new joint bank Luminor, which started operations earlier in October.

In 2013, PKO purchased the Nordea business in Poland for 694 million euros, with possible expansion abroad mentioned in the latest operational strategy published in November of 2016.

Poland's Kredyt Bank had a subsidiary in Lithuania in the past before it was purchased by Nordea in 2004.
