Candidates being invited to apply for post of Revenue Service head again

BC, Riga, 12.08.2016.Print version
After the current head of the State Environmental Service Inga Kolegova took her name out of the running to become the next general-director of the State Revenue Service today, candidates are invited to apply for the vacant post, Prime Minister Maris Kucinskis' press secretary Andrejs Vaivars told LETA.

The prime minister has received information from the Finance Ministry regarding Kolegova's decision, and taking into account the turn of events a new tender for the post will be announced.

Kucinskis said that this tender will not be a failure like the precious one, as a professional employee selection company will be involved.

As reported, the current head of the State Environmental Service Inga Kolegova has taken her name out of the running to become the next general-director of the State Revenue Service, LETA was informed by the Finance Ministry.

Kolegova said in a letter to Finance Minister Dana Reizniece-Ozola (Greens/Farmers) that she withdraws her agreement to be rotated to the position of the general-director of the State Revenue Service, and this has not been an easy choice.

"In the past two weeks my relatives have faced a serious emotional pressure, even though they have not breached the law in any way. This is not acceptable to me," said Kolegova.

She also said that discussions about her candidacy had brought up disagreement among the ruling coalition parties. "It seems that the real reasons of the arguments are related with the visible and often invisible interests of politicians and they have nothing to do with assessment of my professional skills. This is not acceptable to me, either," she said.

If her candidacy had been approved by the government, it is clear that it would not have been a convincing vote, and it would lay obstacles to work and the necessary changes in the Revenue Service.

LETA also reported, the government on Tuesday postponed the vote on appointing State Environmental Service's head Inga Kolegova as the director general of the State Revenue Service until next week following Unity's objections to Kolegova's candidacy.

The reason for such a decision had been information obtained by Unity related to dividends paid out by a company co-owned by Kolegova in 2014, where there are discrepancies in information provided by the company.
