Market participants were attracted to the electronic auctions for the sale of numismatic items, announced by the Bank of Lithuania for the first time. At each of the seventeen auctions, 2 to 6 participants competed; a total of 64 participants registered for the auctions. Those who bid the highest price for a numismatic item won, reported BC the Bank of Lithuania.

"Numismatists did not miss the unique opportunity to compete at the electronic auctions for valuable litas coins and sets not used for the Bank of Lithuania's representation purposes. During the auctions, all coins and sets were sold at a price which was, on average, 90% higher than the initial price of items. The price rose the highest for the sets of coins dedicated to the 600th anniversary of the Battle of Grunwald – we sold them at a price approximately 2.5 times higher than the initial price bid," said Vygantas Reifonas, Director of the Organisation Service at the Bank of Lithuania.

According to him, the sets of gold coins dedicated to the millennium of the mention of the name of Lithuania were sold at a price approximately 60% higher than the initial price bid, while the price of one set of 8 silver coins rose by 21%.

The initial prices for the items on sale varied between EUR 332 (LTL 1,146.33) (8 silver coins) and EUR 1,115 (LTL 3,849.87) (the coin sets dedicated to the 600th anniversary of the Battle of Grunwald). The initial price of coins and their sets bid at the auctions equalled the price at which these items were sold at the Cash Offices of the Bank of Lithuania.
