"A joint plan of the EU and Lithuania must be prepared on the security of supplying electricity, which would ensure the energy security of Lithuania. It would be a document prepared together with the European Commission and the other two Baltic states, which would be approved by the European Council. This document would provide measures and their funding," Anicetas Ignotas, Undersecretary of the Economy Ministry, told ELTA on Thursday before leaving for Luxembourg. Ignotas and Economy Minister Vytas Navickas will attend the meeting of the Council of the EU energy ministers in Luxembourg on Friday.
President Valdas Adamkus also stated that Lithuania was discussing the issue of energy security "on the highest level" and there was hope that a solution, satisfying our country, would be reached during the Lithuanian Television programme "Teise Zinoti" ("The Right to Know") broadcasted on Wednesday evening.
""We do not hold conversations on this issue publicly or in press, yet this issue is being considered and there is a formula which maybe will help us. The question is not to refuse to close Ignalina nuclear power plant but our need for additional time," Adamkus said.
The president promised to say more on this issue on Friday, when he would address the residents of Lithuania.
