Juhan Tere, BC, Tallinn, 02.02.2012.Print version
Estonian main electric grid company Elering announced that the Estonian-Finnish sea cable Estlink switched off on Tuesday at noon and will continue to be out of order till 00:00 on February 3, LETA/Postimees Online reports.

The cause of the switch off was change of broken transistors in Harku and Espoo converter stations.

Due to the cable malfunction, a certain deficit of capacity emerged in the Estonian electricity system. Elering's command centre manager Märt Allika said that in addition to the reserve capacities that Elering has, also reserve capacities of Latvian and Lithuanian system administrators had to be launched.

UPD: Estlink is back in order. Initially the owner of the cable Nordic Energy Link promised to deal with the problems by 00:00 on February 3. The cause of the switch off was change of broken transistors in Harku and Espoo converter stations.
