The beginning of the operation of first reactor at Baltic nuclear power plant (NPP) in Kaliningrad region has been postponed from 2016 to 2017 as an operation licence was obtained behind time.

"According to schedule, the first reactor has to be built by 2016. Yet, most probably it will become operational in 2017, while the second reactor of the NPP will be completed in 2018," said head of Baltic NPP management Yevgeny Vlasenka.

The deadline had to be postponed as it took almost a year to obtain an operation licence, reports LETA/ELTA со ссылкой на newkaliningard.ru .

The Baltic NPP will be built in Nemansky District, approximately 20 kilometres from the Lithuanian border. The plant will be equipped with two 1,150 megawatt reactors.
