The main reason for an increase in the production of electricity was the total decline in imports from Lithuania due to the Ignalina nuclear power plant getting closed down. In September last year, Estonia imported from Lithuania more than 232 GWh of electricity.

Electricity was exported in the total amount of 366 GWh, 51% of which was sold to Latvia, 31% to Lithuania and 19% to Finland. In August, 92 GWh of electricity was imported – 25% of which from Latvia, 1% from Lithuania and 73% from Finland.

Consumption of electricity in Estonia (amounting to 571 GWh) continued growing in September, growing by 4% in the year-on-year comparison. During the entire nine months, consumption had also grown by four% in comparison to the same period of time last year.
