The Estonian state-owned Eesti Energia Distribution Grid is carrying out an international state procurement to find partners for regular maintenance and repair works, liquidating malfunctions and building new electricity networks, LETA/Postimees Online reports.

The planned total monetary value of the procurement is 550 million kroons and will be distributed over three years.

Head of the Distribution Grid Tarmo Mere explained that this is an approximate volume of works which will depend on the annual maintenance and repair works plan, volume of accessions and malfunctions.

“Estonia’s electricity grid is largely over 40 years old. Since the age of the grid has exceeded its useful lifespan, we have to focus more and more attention on regular maintenance and repair works in order to keep the current level of supply safety,” said Mere.

The procurement covers 5 regions and 15 parts of procurement. Contracts with best bidders of the parts of procurement will be concluded for three years. Procurement contracts with regional partners will be concluded at the beginning of 2011.

Eesti Energia Distribution Grid manages over 60,000 km of power lines and 21,000 substations.
