Eesti Energia will increase new, higher prices on electricity from Tuesday. For regular consumers, the price of the heating package will increase the most – the daytime tariff will grow by nearly 22%, i.e. instead of the current level of 85.04 cents per kWh, consumers will have to pay 103.53 cents per kWh. Other fees in this package will grow as well, but on average by 5%, informs LETA.

The fees for renewable energy as well as the excise tax on electricity remained on the same level in all packages.

“After receiving approval for the new price of electricity at the end of March we calculated the new price packages for customers of Eesti Energia and re-calculated the distribution network fees,” said the head of department of energy sales of Eesti Energia Jüri Johannson. He emphasised that customers can themselves manage the spending on electricity by saving power.

For a family of four which buys and uses 300 kWh electricity per month in the Kodu 2 package (Home 2), half of it with nighttime tariff, the change would mean extra 18 kroons per month in expenses.

Eesti Energia wishes that in the coming years the price of electricity would be calculated once a year, similarly to distribution network fees.

Eesti Energia asserted that despite the price increase the electricity it sells is still one among the cheapest in Europe. Malta and Latvia are currently behind Estonia, although Latvia will experience an increase in the price of electricity by nearly 40%.

Electricity prices are higher than in Estonia in more than 20 European States.
