According to Matulionis, development and prospects of renewable energy are not only environmental or energy provision issues. This is more complex issue covering all spheres of life. "The greatest challenge we will face – how to proceed to more secure and cleaner energy system, which would not undermine economic and social development and reduce the threat of climate change," he said.
Matulionis noted that the price of renewable energy depends on the technology costs, therefore in length of time mass production of such energy and technological innovations should stabilize and even reduce the energy price. He also stated that the essential step in eliminating energy isolation of the Baltic states and integrating them into the European energy market is laying of electricity cable SWEDLIT from Lithuania to Sweden, informs ELTA.
The international conference aimed at stimulating the development of renewable energy sector in Lithuania and intensifying Lithuanian-Swedish cooperation in this area. It is expected that this would accelerate the information exchange between the countries about policy, scientific research and new technology in development of wind, water, biomass and bioethanol energy. The conference was attended by Lithuanian and Swedish politicians, representatives of ministries and other state institutions, business, associations, NGOs and science community, foreign diplomats accredited to Lithuania.
