The weighted average price of natural gas imports into Lithuania plunged by 54% in the first half of 2020 compared to a year ago to 10.12 euros per megawatt-hour (MWh), the country's energy market regulator said.

Market participants imported a total of 15.145 terawatt-hours (TWh) of gas during the six months, a rise of 19.4% y-o-y. Total gas import costs decreased by 30.7% to 82.719 mln euros, the National Energy Regulatory Council (VERT) said.

Transmission to Lithuanian consumers remained almost unchanged at 12.556 TWh, but transportation to other EU countries more than doubled to 2.524 TWh. Gas transit volumes fell by 8.3% to 12.353 TWh.

A total of 27.433 TWh of natural gas was transported via the Lithuanian transmission system in the first half of this year, up 0.8%. Amber Grid, the transmission system operator, saw its revenue from the transmission service to system users decline by 5.5% to 16.695 mln euros.

Lower gas prices on international markets helped the Klaipeda liquefied natural gas (LNG) to attract more users and boost its first-half regasification volumes by 85.3% y-o-y to 11.046 TWh of gas.

Natural gas consumption in Lithuania totaled 12.484 TWh in the first half of 2020, close to the year-earlier level of 12.483 TWh.
