Sufficient power capacity would cost up to EUR 130 mln for Lithuania
BC, Vilnius, 16.11.2020.Print version
As Lithuania is getting ready to disconnect its grid from the post-Soviet system by 2025 by synchronizing it with the Western European system and increasing local power production, the country's government is set this week to endorse rules to ensure power production or storage capacity, writes LETA/BNS.
It is estimated that producers and suppliers would need to pay around 95-129 mln euros a year for the capacity won during technologically-neutral auctions, if a kilowatt of power cost 10-40 euros. Specific amounts would depend on the technology and the number of installations proposed by foreign producers.
In June, the Seimas of Lithuania adopted amendments to the Law on Electricity on the mechanism ensuring power capacity. Under the law, auctions will be held and not only power production but also storage installation will be able to take part in them, for example, batteries, as well as installations operated by independent power demand aggregators
