LitGrid: Lithuania's wholesale electricity prices fall 10%

Lithuania's average wholesale electricity price fell by 10.5% last week from a week earlier to the lowest level in the Baltic region, the power transmission system operator Litgrid said on Monday, referred LETA/BNS.

Electricity prices in Nord Pool's Lithuanian bidding area averaged 44.39 euros per megawatt-hour (MWh) on August 24-30. The Latvian area saw the average price decline by 9.9% to 44.71 euros, and Estonia's average price was down by rose by 4.5 percent to 44.48 euros per MWh. 


Lithuania's power consumption edged down by 1 percent week-on-week to 224 gigawatt-hours (GWh). However, the country's domestic production jumped by 22% to 118 GWh, covering 53% of its needs.   


Some 53% of Lithuania's total electricity was generated by combined heat and power plants, 18% by hydro power plants, 13% by wind turbines, and 16% by other facilities.
