BC, Riga, 18.12.2019.Print version
Stormy winds tonight have damaged power grids, leaving 17,000 households across Latvia without electric power, Tatjana Smirnova, a representative of Sadales Tikls power grid operator, informed LETA.
The strongest wind is currently blowing in western, central and northeastern regions of Latvia, with wind speeds reaching 24 to 27 meters per second, disrupting power supply to thousands of Sadales Tikls clients, the company's representative said, adding that the power grid operator is working to restore power supply to the affected households.
The first wind damage to the power grid was reported at around 1 p.m. in the western Latvian province of Kurzeme. At present 250 teams of 690 electricians have been deployed to repair the damaged power lines.
