Electricity price declined on Estonian and Finnish power exchanges in May

BC, Tallinn, 14.06.2017.Print version
The average market price of electricity in price area Finland and price area Estonia of the Nord Pool power exchange fell respectively 2.2% and 1.7% in May, which means that the month's average power exchange price was 30.67 euros per megawatt-hour in Finland and 30.66 euros per MWh in Estonia, writes LETA/BNS.

At the same time, the average price of electricity in Latvia and Lithuania rose 3.3% to 32.46 euros per MWh. In Finland and Estonia the price of electricity mainly fell due to smaller consumption, which was a result of warmer weather, Eesti Energia said in its energy market overview.

The price was still kept somewhat higher by the maintenance of the first block of Sweden's Ringhals nuclear power plant which lasted until June 10 as well as the unexpected maintenance of the Forsmark nuclear power plant which lasted until May 31. This means that the average price of electricity could fall in June as a result of completed maintenance as well as lower consumption.
