BC, Vilnius, 18.01.2017.Print version
– Some 1.997 terawatt-hours (TWh) of electricity was generated from renewable resources in Lithuania in 2016, up by 23.4 % from, 1.602 TWh, in the year before, the Lithuanian Wind Power Association said on Wednesday, citing power transmission system operator Litgrid reports LETA/BNS.

According to preliminary data, Lithuanian consumers used 10.445 TWh of electricity last year, while renewable energy resources covered about a fifth (18.9%) of the need nationwide.

Last year, wind mills generated a total of 1.094 TWh energy, which accounts for 10.4% of the electricity consumed in Lithuania. In 2015, wind mills contributed 806 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity.

"Last year, three new wind mill parks were launched, featuring the latest technological solutions that considerably improved the work productivity, which allowed generating bigger amounts of energy than earlier generations of wind mill parks," Aistis Radavicius, the head of the association.
