Electricity flowed unusually in Latvia-Estonia and Estonia-Finland directions in November

In November an unusually big amount of electricity flowed from Latvia to Estonia and from Estonia to Finland, compared with the usual trend of flowing from the Nordic countries to the Baltic countries, the Estonian transmission system operator Elering reports LETA.

In November in nearly 37% of hours electricity flowed from Latvia to Estonia and the capacity was fully used in 8% of the hours.


In around three fourths of the hours electricity flowed from Estonia to Finland and only for 10% of the time the other way round. In nearly 7% of the hours the capacity was fully used.

The price of electricity grew in all Nord Pool bidding areas in November, while the smallest price increase was registered in Latvia and Lithuania.


In Estonia the price of electricity rose 9% on month, reaching EUR 40.86 per megawatt-hour. In Finland the price of electricity was 16 cents higher in Estonia, while in Latvia it was 39 cents and in Lithuania 29 cents more expensive than in bidding area Estonia.


The Nord Pool system price, at EUR 38.8 per MWh, was 18.5 % higher than in the preceding month.


Elering earned EUR 831,109 from the distribution of transmission capacities in November.

Based on financial transactions on the Nasdaq OMX Commodities market, the average price of electricity in NP price area Estonia in December is expected to be EUR 38.2 per MWh.
