Lithuania's electricity market prices fall w-o-w as wind and hydro power output rises

Print versionThe average price of electricity in Nord Pool's Lithuanian bidding area fell by 5 percent last week from a weak earlier to 37 euros per megawatt-hour and was down by one-fifth compared with a year earlier, Litgrid said on Monday.

"Week-on-week, hydro power generation in the Baltic countries nearly doubled and wind power generation increased by one-third. Lithuanian hydro power plants generated almost twice as much electricity as well," the power transmission system operator said in a press release.
"As production from renewable sources increased, combined heat and power (CHP) plants generated less electricity. With Lietuvos Elektrine (Lithuanian Power Plant) generating no electricity since last Thursday, Lithuanian CHP plants' total output declined by 61%," it said.
Electricity last week flowed via the NordBalt power interconnection from Sweden to Lithuania during the day and in the opposite direction during the night, the operator said.
