Lithuania-Sweden power link back online

BC, Vilnius, 21.10.2016.Print version
The NordBalt power interconnection between Lithuania and Sweden is back in service on Friday after an outage of several hours due to unknown reasons, reports LETA/BNS.

Svenska Kraftnat had said in a message to the Nord Pool power exchange on Friday afternoon that the 700-megawatt power link was available to the market.

The Swedish power transmission system operator said earlier in the day that NordBalt was offline for an unknown reason and duration.

Planned maintenance on the line is scheduled for Nov. 7-18.

The 700-megawatt interconnection launched regular operations in mid-July after operating in a trial mode from the start of 2016.  The power link has gone offline more than 10 times since the start of the year due to various failures.

The 550- million-euro, 453-kilometer undersea cable linking Lithuania to Sweden was manufactured and laid by Sweden's ABB.
