Electricity flows from Lithuanian to Sweden as Swedish prices rise

BC, Vilnius, 18.10.2016.Print version
With prices in Nord Pool's fourth Swedish bidding area having reached the same average level as in Lithuania, electricity is flowing from Lithuania to Sweden via the NordBalt interconnection, writes LETA/BNS.

Electricity prices in Lithuania are normally higher than those in Sweden, but the average price levels have been the same since last Friday and average 41.03 euros per megawatt-hour in both Nord Pool areas on Tuesday.

The NordBalt link is being used part of the time for power exports to Sweden at a capacity of 172 megawatts on Tuesday. The capacity reached 290 MW during certain hours on Monday and 530 MW on Saturday.

Valentas Neviera, a spokesman for Lietuvos Energijos Gamyba (Lithuanian Energy Production, or LEG), Lithuania's largest electricity producer, told that Unit Nine at LEG's Elektrenai power plant was not generating electricity as it had been shut down for scheduled maintenance until early November.
