A record 205 micro producers mostly using solar panels to produce electric power hooked up to the network of the Estonian distribution system operator Elering in 2015, informs LETA/BNS.

All told 515 micro producers with a combined capacity of 5.26 megawatts have joined the Elektrilevi network in four years.

The number of micro producers grew the most in Harju County where Elektrilevi built 73 connection points during the year. In all counties where Elektrilevi provides the network service at least three new microgeneration plants were built in 2015.

In the initial period of microgeneration four years ago people had more faith in wind energy but now micro production mostly relies on solar energy and only a few wind turbines a year are connected to the distribution system, head of customer service at Elektrilevi Ainer Tiitson said.

The output of the microgeneration plants totaled 2,138 megawatt-hours in 2015, twice as much as the year before.
