Tropp stated that in March the environmental impact assessment report should be approved in March and after that the strategic partners should meet in Vilnius. "There is currently no basis to think that there will be no nuclear power plant in Lithuania – these are just speculations," he explained.
According to Tropp, Lithuania has the capacity to invest into Ignalina together with strategic partners and it should not be questioned.
He added that the preparatory works for Ignalina will last for two years and then the offers for reactors need to be on the table. After that the cost of the plant and the price of electricity to be produced there will be determined and after that, the cost-efficiency and competitiveness of the project can be assessed.
When commenting on the plans to establish a nuclear power plant in Estonia, Tropp said that at first the public will have to be convinced in the necessity, only then can further steps be planned. "We need a political consensus that Estonia wants to proceed on the same path," he added.
