Latvian-Kazakh economic cooperation discussed in Astana

Today and tomorrow, the fourth session of the Latvian-Kazakh Intergovernmental Committee on Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation is taking place in Kazakhstan's capital Astana, Nozare.lv was informed by the Economy Ministry of Latvia.

The head of the Latvian delegation, Economy Ministry State Secretary and Latvian-Kazakh Intergovernmental Committee on Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation deputy co-chairman Juris Puce emphasized that there is great potential for developing and expanding Latvian-Kazakh economic relations, especially in such areas as transit and logistics, certification, information and communication technologies, standardization, agriculture, environmental protection, education, science and health care, writes LETA.

 

Puce will meet with Kazakh Economic Development and Trade Minister Bakhytzhan Sagintayev, Kazakh Education and Science Minister Bakhytzhan Zhumagulov and Kazakh Transport and Communications Minister Askar Zhumagaliyev.

 

The officials will discuss Latvian-Kazakh economic cooperation, the committee's session, EU-Kazakh cooperation, Kazakhstan's accession to the World Trade Organization and the Customs Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan.

 

In 2011, Latvia's foreign trade turnover with Kazakhstan totaled USD 153 million (LVL 85.7 million), making Kazakhstan Latvia's 27th largest trade partner. Latvia's export to Kazakhstan amounted to USD 109.4 million (LVL 61 million), import from Kazakhstan – USD 43.6 million (LVL 24.4 million).
