President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaite has met with Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs Kostiantyn Gryshchenko as part of his visit to Lithuania. The president and the member of the Ukrainian Government discussed Lithuanian-Ukrainian bilateral relations and preparations for a session of the Council of Presidents of Lithuania and Ukraine scheduled this coming autumn, reported BC presidential press service.

Minister Gryshchenko informed the president of the political situation in Ukraine, its relations with neighboring countries and results of the meeting of the EU-Ukraine Cooperation Council that took place on June 15 in Luxembourg. According to the foreign minister, Ukraine is strongly committed to follow the path of European integration.

"Ukraine is an important partner of Lithuania and the whole European Union. We are united not only by dynamic present activities, but also by long-standing historical and cultural traditions. Lithuania is committed to continuing constructive relations with Ukraine and its people. We are ready to cooperate and share our euro-integration experience as long as Ukraine finds our assistance helpful. Both Lithuania and the whole European Union attach great importance to rapid and successful democratic reforming process in Ukraine," President Dalia Grybauskaite said.

The discussion in the meeting also concerned the progress of the EU-Ukraine free trade agreement negotiations and bilateral economic cooperation between Lithuania and Ukraine. President Dalia Grybauskaite underlined that open and constructive dialogue based on free trade principles rather than protectionism is key for successful development of bilateral relations, writes the presidential press service.
