120-kilometer fence to be built on Latvian-Belarusian border

Print versionA fence approximately 120 kilometers long will be built on the Latvian-Belarusian border to help the Border Guard apprehend illegal immigrants and other trespassers, according to the Interior Ministry's report submitted to the government, writes LETA.

Construction of the fence will be part of a border zone infrastructure enhancement and development project that will commence in 2018. The entire project is estimated to cost EUR 9.6 mln.
Latvia has a 176-kilometer border with Belarus.
At the moment, a fence is being built at Latvia's border with Russia. The project commenced in 2015 and will conclude in 2019.
