Lithuanian MFA and Spain's new ambassador discussed economic, energy issues

On 18 September in Vilnius, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevicius and new Ambassador of Spain to Lithuania Emilio Fernandez-Castano y Diaz-Caneja discussed partnership within international organisations, economic cooperation, and issues relating to the EU internal energy market, reported BC the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The minister highlighted excellent bilateral relations between Lithuania and Spain, constructive cooperation within international organisations, thanked Spain for supporting Lithuania's bid to become a member of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

 

Linkevicius underlined a strive to attract more Spanish investors to Lithuania as bilateral trade turnout has been growing. The ambassador stressed that he was interested in strengthening economic ties between the two countries and that he planned to establish contacts with Lithuania's business community.

 

According to the ambassador, both countries are partly isolated energy markets. Therefore, it is in the interests of both countries to work together for the completion of EU internal energy market.

 

Ambassador Emilio Fernandez-Castano y Diaz-Caneja was proceeded in his post by Ambassador Miguel Arias Estevez, who had served in Lithuania since 2011.
