BC, Vilnius, 16.10.2020.Print version
Lithuania on Friday reported 281 new coronavirus infections, a new record daily increase since the start of the pandemic, and two more deaths from COVID-19, informed LETA/BNS. A total of 148 new Covid-19 cases have been recorded in Latvia over the past 24 hours, which is the highest number of new cases a day so far, the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) informed today.

This brings Lithuania's total coronavirus count to 7,041 positive cases, the Health Ministry said.

The new fatalities bring the overall virus death toll to 112.

The country currently has 3,862 active coronavirus cases and 3,035 recoveries. A total of 34,269 people are currently in isolation. The country has since June 1 registered 343 cases of coronavirus infection contracted abroad.

A total of 877,398 tests for COVID-19 have been carried out in Lithuania so far, including 8,628 over the past 24 hours.

One Covid-19 patient, aged 30-35, died last night in Latvia.

The new infections were discovered after testing 4,759 people. The rate of positive tests was 3.1%. The CDC explained earlier that in the European Union this indicator is considered important because when this figure rises above 3%, the spread of the disease is considered to be rapid and uncontrolled.

To date, a total of 382,949 Covid-19 tests have been carried out in Latvia, 3,204 people have tested positive for the virus and 1,329 Covid-19 patients have recovered.

The CDC has promised to provide more detailed information later today.

Six Covid-19 patients have been hospitalized over the past 24 hours, and 12 patients have been discharged. At present, there are 63 Covid-19 patients receiving treatment in hospitals, according to the data released by the National Health Service.

Of all the hospitalized Covid-19 patients, 54 have symptoms of medium severity and nine are severe cases.

To date, 277 Covid-19 patients have been discharged from hospitals, but this figure includes both recovered and dead patients.
