The opposition Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats is leading in Lithuania's parliament election in the multi-member constituency. The ruling Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union is second, followed by the Labor Party, and the Social Democratic Party of Lithuania is hot on the latter's heels, based on the results from the country's Central Electoral Commission, LETA/BNS informed.

The results from 1,570 out of 1,989 polling districts show the HU-LCD got 21% of votes and 19 seats in the parliament. The LFGU gets almost 20% of votes and 18 seats, followed by the Labor Party with 11% and 11 seats, and the Social Democratic Party of Lithuania with 10% and nine mandates.

Running for parliament for the first time, the Freedom Party, based on non-final results, received more than 7% of votes and has seven mandates. The Liberal Movement gets over 6% of votes and six seats.

In the multi-member constituency, parties vie for 70 out of 141 seats in the parliament, and another 71 lawmakers are elected in single-member constituencies.

It remains to be seen whether the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania – Christian Families Alliance, part of the existing ruling block, will manage to cross the 5-% election threshold to get into the Seimas as the party has 4.74% of votes, based on the non-final results.

The Social Democratic Labor Party of Lithuania, also part of the existing ruling coalition, fails to cross the election threshold with 3.65% of votes.

A total of 17 political parties nominated their candidate list in the multi-member constituency.
