BC, Riga, 15.02.2017.Print version
The Estonian Social Ministry held the first successful joint tender with the Latvian Health Ministry to purchase rotavirus vaccine and as a result both countries saved money, reports LETA/BNS.

Estonia and Latvia purchased 61,000 doses of vaccine, of which 24,710 went to Estonia and 36,290 to Latvia, the Social Ministry said. Estonia purchased the vaccines 25% cheaper than it would have without the joint tender.

According to Eveli Bauer, an adviser at the medicines department of the Estonian Ministry of Social Affairs, the tender was very successful and the experience encourages to carry out joint tenders also in the future.

The leading partner of the joint tender was Estonia.

On May 2, 2012 the three Baltic countries entered into a partnership agreement for carrying out joint tenders for purchasing medications and medical equipment as well as lending medications and medical equipment. In times of need the countries have used the opportunity to loan medications from each other on multiple occasions.
