Klaipeda port posts 1.3% drop in Jan-Sept cargo traffic

The Lithuanian seaport of Klaipeda handled 34.5 million tons of cargo in January through September 2020, a decline of 1.3% year-on-year, the port authority reported on Thursday citing non-final data, writes LETA/BNS.

In September alone, however, cargo traffic grew by an annual 17.6% to 4.3 million tons.
Liquid cargo volumes for the nine months fell by 15.5% to 6.6 million tons, and general cargo volumes were down by 6.1% to 11 million tons. Bulk cargo volumes, meanwhile, increased by 9.6% to 16.9 million tons.
In September, liquid cargo traffic plummeted by 34.3% to 587,100 tons whereas bulk cargo volumes rose by 52 percent to 2.4 million tons and general cargo volumes – by 10.7% to 1.3 million tons.
