Total costs of energy resources in Latvia reduced by 17.5% in 2009
Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia has arranged information on costs of energy resources in 2009. Total costs of energy resources were 17.5% lower than in 2008. In 2009 the most notable reduction of the energy resource costs was observed in transport sector: –48.4% compared to the costs of 2008.
Lithuania and Belarus aim to work together on LNG terminal in Klaipeda
Repressions remain in Belarus, though they change their form, representatives of Belarus' civil society and democratic opposition told Lithuanian Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius on his visit to Minsk. Lithuania and Belarus also are aiming to work together on a planned Baltic Sea liquefied natural gas terminal, Lithuanian Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius said on Monday.
Construction of the Nord Stream began in Finnish Waters
The pipelay vessel Castoro Sei arrived in the Finnish Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) on schedule and continued construction of the Nord Stream Pipeline moving from the Swedish EEZ to the Finnish EEZ yesterday. A first short section of the construction of the 375 kilometres long Finnish part of the Nord Stream Pipeline will be laid during the summer. The majority of the Finnish section will be constructed during late autumn and winter 2010 after completion of the Russian landfall. So far, approximately 175 kilometres of the first pipeline has been installed, starting in the Swedish EEZ off Gotland.
Kubilius: Belarus wants to develop relations with Lithuania and EU
Belarus wants to develop active relations with Lithuania and the European Union, Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius concluded after a meeting with the country's president Alexander Lukashenko. Instead of the scheduled thirty minutes, Kubilius and Lukashenko communicated for an hour and a half.
Court upholds custody ruling against Latvenergo power utility vice-president
Riga Regional Court today upheld the Central District Court's June 16 decision to order the Latvenergo power utility vice-president, Aigars Melko, held in custody. The Riga Regional Court today turned down two appeals filed by Melko's defense, the court's spokesman Ilvars Tomsons told LETA.
Kauno Energija determined new heating prices valid from July 1
The Managing Board of Lithuanian energy company Kauno Energija has determined new prices of centrally supplied heat (VAT not included) intended for end-users taking into consideration that the heat price bought from a company Kauno Termofikacijos Elektrine increases by 13.1 %, starting from July 1, 2010, the price of conditional fuel goes up by 11.3 %, and new components of heat price were determined by National Control Commission for Prices and Energy on June 18, 2010 within its decision No. O3-104, Kauno Energija reports to NASDAQ OMX Vilnius.

Lithuania considers gas supplies from Polish Gaz-System
Lithuania mulls supplementing Russia's Gazprom gas deliveries by delivering approximately a half of all necessary gas from Poland, The Lithuania Tribune reports. The Polish daily Rzeczpospolita reported on June 24 that Poland's company Gaz-System and Lithuanian counterpart Lietuvos Dujos have already agreed on details of a letter of intent regarding cooperation in construction of the pipeline between Lithuania and Poland.
Lithuania is worried over Russia-Belarus gas dispute
The Commission unveiled in Brussels on 23 June 2010 its concern over Russia-Belarus gas dispute. Commission voiced strong considerations about consequential gas cuts in Lithuania. In the past few days, the Commission has repeatedly recalled that the dispute between Russia and Belarus must not have any negative impact on the EU member states and that contracts between Russian and the EU have to be fulfilled.
Bariss: candidates for Latvenergo board must be experts from outside company
Professionals from outside Latvenergo Group should be appointed as Latvenergo board members because it is no secret that a large part of the company's employees have played important role in the making of one or another decision of the company; if it turns out that any of these decisions has been wrong, the company will have to react accordingly, as the new Latvenergo acting board chairman, Uldis Bariss, told the business portal Nozare.lv.
Swiss consultants from Colenco were involved in Riga cogeneration plant reconstruction since 2004
The Swiss company AF Colenco, which has its office in Latvia registered at the private home in Marupe that belongs to Andrejs Livanovics, one of the persons arrested in the so-called "Latvenergo bigwig" case, has been involved in the Riga 2nd Cogeneration Plant reconstruction project ever since it started six years ago, according to LETA’s files.
Eesti Energia increased its sales by 26.7% in May
