Estonia to help Ukraine with e-solutions and court system reform

During a meeting between Estonian Justice Minister Urmas Reinsalu and his Ukrainian counterpart Pavlo Petrenko, the two ministers agreed that Estonia is to help Ukraine with e-solutions of public services in the interests of corruption-free and fast managing, informs LETA/BNS.

Latvia's largest companies meet 36% corporate transparency criteria

Latvia's largest companies meet on average just 36% of corporate transparency criteria, and even companies with 500 and more employees have published information in relation to 50% of criteria, according to a study conducted by the Corporate Sustainability and Responsibility Institute, reports LETA.

Total turnover in e-trade to other EU-located businesses/consumers was 17% in 2014, compared with 12% in 2008. As in previous years, EU’s companies were engaged more in e-purchases than in e-sales, with 40% having purchased online, while 19% made electronic sales during the same period. Two new directives will address problems incurred in the “digital contracts” and e-commerce.

987 proposals were submitted to Lithuanian Seimas by individuals and organizations in 2008-2015

The number of various associations and other interest groups submitting proposals to the Seimas of Lithuania is 16 times higher than that of registered lobbyists, an analysis by the Transparency International Lithuanian Chapter has revealed, cites LETA/BNS.

The number of EU citizens having ordered goods or services for private use over the internet ("e-buyers") has risen from 30% in 2007 to 53% in 2015. Already now, the EU has exceeded its Digital Agenda target of 50%; thus, there is a new consumers’ right (“cross-border portability”), which becomes a reality by 2017. Besides, the EU is to widen people's access to cultural content online and support creators.

University of Tartu to build IT centre

At its meeting of 9 December 2015, the UT strategy committee discussed the location of the future IT development centre. After thorough deliberation of the arguments, it was decided that the preferred location for the centre is the Narva maantee area near Oeconomicum, the academic building of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, informed BC university’s press service.
