Ventspils port terminals see 39.2% drop in cargo turnover in 11 months
Of the cargo handled by the port's terminals in the 11 months, liquid cargo accounted for 7.611 tons, down 20.8% from the respective period in previous year. Bulk cargo shrank 74.9% to 1.895 million tons and general cargo rose 1% to 2.329 million tons.
In November 2020, cargo handling in Ventspils fell 17.4% to 1.112 million tons. Liquid cargo accounted for 706,000 tons of this amount, down 18.7% on year, bulk cargo reduced 22.7% to 204,000 tons, and general cargo decreased 6% on year to 202,000 tons.
During the first 11 months of 2020, the port handled 1,201 ships, down 14.8% from the same period a year ago. Of the vessels served at the port in the first 11 months of this year 852 were dry cargo ships and 349 were tankers.
Ventspils is Latvia's second largest port by cargo turnover.
