Police leave premises of RNP housing manager after overnight searches

BC, Riga, 31.01.2020.Print version
Officers of the State Police left the central office building of Rigas Namu Parvaldnieks (RNP) municipal housing management company at around 7:20 a.m. Friday after overnight searches at the RNP premises, the company's spokesman Krists Leiskalns informed LETA.

The RNP representative said that police officers seized documents during the searches but that their absence will not prevent RNP from providing housing management services to its clients.

The RNP interim board provided all the necessary support to the law enforcement officers, Leiskalns said, adding that only the State Police is authorized to provide more detailed information about the overnight raid.

On Thursday evening, officers of the State Police arrived at the RNP head office at 42 Caka Street, Riga, Leiskalns told LETA, but he was unable to comment on what the law enforcement officers were looking for at the RNP premises.

RNP interim CEO Ernests Saulitis could not be contacted on Thursday night but it was known that he too arrived at the RNP office.

Latvian Television reported that the searches at the RNP head office could be connected to a company that has been awarded the contract to service elevators in apartment houses managed by RNP.

The office of Liftu Alianse elevator maintenance company was probably searched as well on Thursday night, Latvian Television reported.

According to information available at Firmas.lv, Liftu Alianse belongs to Igors Babkins. In 2018, the company increased turnover by 20%  to EUR 1,319,939 and nearly doubled its profit to EUR 1,214,689.

Rigas Namu Parvaldnieks belongs to the Riga City Council. The company was established at the end of 2010 by merging fifteen municipal housing management companies.
